9. If your ball hits another player’s ball on the fairway, there is no penalty.
10. While playing your ball on the green, if your ball hits another player’s ball on the green or hits clubs lying on the green, you incur a two stoke penalty. When chipping onto the green, if your ball hits another player’s ball on the green, there is no penalty.

For Thursday/Saturday Play
Players are encouraged to play the hole. Each player tees off. If the ball is lost in the water, a second shot must be played from either the Tee Box (by teeing up at the blocks or not teeing up in front of the blocks). If the second shot is lost in the water, play ends. Record your “ESC” score with an “X” on the score card.
For Tournament Play
Every player must tee off. If the ball is lost in the water, a second shot must be played from either the Tee Box (by teeing up at the blocks or not teeing up in front of the blocks). If the second shot is lost in the water, you may continue to play until you hole out or take you "ESC" score recorded with an "X" on the score card.
15. Equitable Stroke Control Options
On up to two holes during a nine hole round, players can take a net par score (par + handicap strokes) for a hole not played or not finished for medical, physical or course obstructions.
After beginning to play a hole, if the player has a difficult time, her maximum score is net double bogie (par + handicap strokes + two more strokes).

- Annual dues are due by November 1 in order for member information to be included in the Handbook.
- Any member with an established handicap in the USGA Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN), a paid membership, and who has played in at least six (6) WNHLGA nine hole Thursday/Saturday play events during the league season (February 1st to November 30th) is eligible for prizes for individual play on play days. Members who do not have an established handicap can participate in individual events, but are not eligible for awards or prizes. These members without an established handicap in GHIN are not eligible for play in team events, but are welcome to attend associated social activities.
2. Handicap – Burden/Azalea/Royal Tees
- The Niners play from the Burden, Azalea or Royal Tees, which have been rated for competitive play. Before the kick-off event (or date designated by the Executive Committee), each member must determine which tees she will use for Niner events and Thursday/Saturday play. New for 2023, an individual may designate one tee for the Cupp course and a different tee for the Jones course, known as a "blended tee". Thereafter, all scores will be recorded from those same tees for the entire year. Any traditional Azalea tee player who opts to play from the Royal tees will not be included in low gross game but will still be included in low net game. If a member wishes to change her designated tee, she must submit a written request for consideration to the Executive Committee. The Handicap Coordinator will record and track each player's handicap and designated tee implementing the USGA Handicap System adjustment for women playing in competition from different tees.
- In Niner individual and team events that consist of Woodside players only, Niners will play from their designated tees for awards and/or points.
- To qualify for awards and/or points in Niner events that include players outside of Woodside, the Event Chair will determine the tees to be played.
- (New for 2024) If playing for league on a Saturday and the Pro Shop changes your course to the one not played on the preceding Thursday, you still get participation points but may not be considered for low gross/low net for that day.
3. Thursday/Saturday Play
- Sign-up for Thursday league play will be on the Event page on the Invited Clubs Members website (members.invitedclubs.com). League members unable to play at the designated time on Thursday may play at another time that day with at least one other Niner league member.
- Sign-up for Saturday play for league will be through the regular tee sheet sign-up process and must be played with at least one other Niner league member.
- Each player is responsible for checking her pairing and starting hole assignment prior to play. Each player must check in at the Pro Shop at least 30 minutes before the assigned tee time and be at the first tee 10 minutes before her designated tee time.
- Each foursome will keep two scorecards. The first name listed on the score card will be considered the team captain and is responsible for recording each player’s score on one of the official score cards. The captain is responsible for ensuring that the score card is accurate, signed, dated and attested. The captain is responsible for ensuring the score card is emailed to the Awards Chair within 24 hours of play.
4. Scoring Thursday/Saturday play and Maintenance of Nine Hole handicap
- Handicaps are computed by the GHIN. Once you have established a handicap, you must keep it up to date by entering your score every time you play.
- Using your Nine Hole handicap, check the Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) Chart to find the maximum number of strokes allowed on any hole. Once you reach your maximum (Par + Handicap strokes + 2 more strokes), you may pick up or hole-out. All artificial scores (ESC) are to be marked with an X for league game purposes. For posting in GHIN, you MUST use your actual ESC maximum on applicable holes. When entering your score into GHIN hole by hole, GHIN will adjust a score if it is higher than your allowable maximum ESC score.
- For posting in GHIN, as well as scores from all other days you play, use the "ESC" Chart.
